STUDENT OPPORTUNITY: Thesis Writing for COFA Students

The Learning Centre is holding a Thesis Writing for COFA students workshop which will provide an overview of the thesis writing process, specifically for students whose art practice is a major component of their research.

The workshops introduce students to the traditional components of an academic thesis and then explore the ways in which these structures may or may not be relevant in the context of visual/creative arts practice.

Students are encouraged to reflect on the value that discursively ‘reporting’ their research may have for their creative work, and in terms of their ability to position themselves – historically and professionally – within the art world.

The series is divided into 4 sessions; students should attend all 4 workshops as each is centred on a different aspect of thesis writing. Topics will include:

  • Thesis structures and the idea of art practice as research
  • The function and importance of the literature review
  • Defining, understanding and justifying methodology
  • Academic writing, critical discussion, editing and markers’ expectations

The sessions run on Wednesdays over four consecutive weeks, from May 7-28, 2014. Please note that spaces are limited; you must RSVP in order to secure a spot.

Time: 11.00am – 1.00pm
Location: Library Seminar Room 209 (Kensington Campus)

To RSVP and for further information, please email Dr. Shivaun Weybury.
